Paul Maloney Pottery is produced using traditional hand methods. Paul studied Art & Design Education in the National College of Art & Design and graduated as an Art Teacher.
The lure of pottery proved irresistible and Paul set up his own pottery studio in Wexford, where he continues to create beautiful, functional tableware and giftware. Paul’s pottery has modern, fluid lines and Paul says ‘ walking on the many beaches in Wexford and watching the changing coastline, has a continuing influence on my work’.
All pieces are handthrown on the potters wheel, followed by a series of hand finishing techniques, then glazed and fired to 1100c. Design and Shape constantly evolve through the years to reflect Pauls thoughts on Form and Function. Craft Pottery, like Art is an ever changing practise, as designs and ideas are not set by the boundaries of a mould or machine. The term ‘unique’ has become clichéd, but here it is true – every piece is indeed, one of its kind.
Paul has painted in acrylic and oil throughout his life and has been a 1st Prize winner in Europe’s largest Plein Air Festival. He has recently produced a range of prints titled ‘Field of Dreams’. They are striking images of the animals he sees in the fields about his home in Wexford. The paintings reflect the spirit of the animal in a certain time and space and are set in the ‘golden hour’ of morning.
